Why would you let me guide you?
Over more than 25 years I’ve had the privilege of guiding thousands of smart, experienced people through successful career transitions, as well as managing their careers within their current organisation.
In addition, I’ve managed both planned and forced career changes of my own., including changing industries and functions and moving countries three times.
What about redundancy? I’ve survived and thrived through 2 of them/
Here’s My “Why”
A former manager used to tease me with a line from a well-known U2 song:
“I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”
And for many years he was absolutely right. I have wrestled with career direction from my late teens/early twenties. Both my parents were high school teachers and while I admired the way they loved their work, I swore I would never teach.
So, naturally, I have spent the last 30 years teaching, training and coaching!
I originally qualified at Post Graduate level to teach languages and worked for a couple of years in secondary education. Since then my career journey has taken me to 6 industries on 3 continents, through 2 redundancies, corporate employment and periods of self-employment and contracting.
And – I have found what I’m looking for
I hate to see people feeling stuck or struggling to perform in a role that doesn’t suit them. That’s bad for employers and employees and it doesn’t have to be that way.
Finding the right role and navigating the transition is hard.
I work as a coach and facilitator. I guide senior leaders through tough career transitions to find their ideal next role.
Sometimes that involves moving on and a structured job search campaign. Sometimes it means finding ways to re-energise the career without leaving a good employer. Sometimes it leads to a completely reframed portfolio career or even a new business venture.
I have helped nearly 3000 people and their new employers connect through targeted recruitment and coaching.
My background includes 6 industries, 3 continents in corporate roles and self-employment in executive search, recruitment, career coaching, training, operations and key account management.
Having changed careers myself several times and heard the war stories of countless candidates I realised that there are three main issues that employers and job seekers face:
1. Nearly half of all workers and even leaders are in the wrong job
2. Most job seekers have had a bad experience with recruiters
3. Most job seekers focus on the most competitive part of the market increasing their rate of rejection
Here’s My “How”
I help my clients to overcome these problems by taking no shortcuts, focusing on clarity, rigorous assessment and guiding them to a deep understanding of what works for them and their core value proposition. We build skills for accessing work opportunities through a 3-tier, structured and proactive campaign or preparing for self-employment.
We focus on making sure the ‘fit’ is as close to perfect as possible so that they and their new employer both benefit for a long time to come. I do this by making sure there is proper alignment of not only skills and experience but more importantly, motivation and personality.
To underpin my coaching, I regularly use what is arguably the world’s leading behavioural and motivational assessment tool, the Birkman Method®.
I aim to coach with a balance of sensitivity and directness and this tool gives me and my client validated data on which to base real, actionable insights.
